Do you have a favorite store that offers exactly the sort of merchandise you love? Take a walk with me as I explore one of my favorite establishments, Family Tree Nursery in Overland Park, Kansas. From what I understand, it is a VERY popular nursery in the area. The full parking lot and all the cars parked on the side streets confirmed my suspicions. Since it was just a week before Mother’s Day, the joint was jumpin’!

At Family Tree Nursery, they sell everything from perennial flowers to shrubs, to bonsai trees. I was so surprised that all of the beautiful outside plants and bushes are rated for our growing zone. As we go further into the nursery, you will be amazed at the giant plants and mature trees, such as those you might see in the mall common spaces or in upscale hotel lobbies. I don’t know if I’m more impressed with the beautiful plants and planters or the gift shop that is a big part of the experience. Let me tell you, Christmas time at Family Tree is magical! I have been to this nursery several times over the years and I always find something I JUST HAVE TO HAVE!

As we circle around to the gift shop, you will find items that motivate and inspire you. You can find faux flowers to use in crafts, recipe books, journals, t-shirts, birdhouses – really just about anything and everything you need to decorate your home or garden. There are stepping stones, pre-made wreaths, garden sculptures and characters, how-to books, wind chimes, pillows, kids’ puzzles, garden fountains, baskets, and fun spices and canned goodies, like salsa.

When you round the corner, you will also find “Equinox”, a coffee bar that is billed as offering “Caffeine & Chlorophyll”. I could totally spend at least half a day at Family Tree! Unfortunately, I only had about an hour to check out what was new this spring. If you go, promise yourself you will take time to look at all the different displays.
